This project looks at our earliest childhood memories with an emphasis on where HEritage, science and memory converge.
Through my creative practice, I am unravelling the meaning behind my own earliest childhood memory which will result in the production of an auto-ethnographic animation. I am particularly interested in comprehending scientific explanations from Freud and any current scientific studies that relate to this theme, as well as applying the philosophical ideas of Satre to assist with a wider public engagement. The film welcomes the public to share their own stories which will form part of an extended film and exhibition.
My earliest memory was formulated in Lagos, Nigeria when I was 4 years old. I have never returned. The film will look at the correlation between childhood, memory and identity.
What is infantile amnesia and do these memories live on? What triggers our first childhood memory to re-emerge? Are memories physical entities? Is there a connection between our senses and these early memories?
When I was a child, i never really spoke about my family at school. I wonder why i felt the need to be so secretive and hide my stories. The way that we share stories about our lives is an important aspect of how we relate to those around us. This project will form the basis of an animated documentary so i can re-connect to the past with confidence and authenticity.
